What is a receding chin?
This is a condition where the chin slopes inward and is set back from the upper jaw, meaning it is less prominent and defined, and making the profile of the lower face look unbalanced.
What causes a receding chin?
Some people are born with a receding chin. However, it can also be the result of ageing, as we begin to lose bone and soft tissue definition around the chin and jaw.
What treatments are available?
Treatments depend on the severity of the recessed chin and the results desired, but there are definitely things that can be done to create a more defined chin. Dermal fillers used in strategic places can make the chin appear more prominent and balance out the facial profile.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have one of the best safety profiles of any injectable treatment, due to their biodegradable nature. They are minimally invasive and safe, if done by an experienced medical professional. As with any procedure, there are possible risks, the most common being post-procedure redness, bruising and swelling. All risks will be discussed on your consultation.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
I do everything I can to reduce discomfort and make the treatment as pleasant as possible. A topical local anaesthetic can be used in the area to be treated before the procedure, and any needles used during the treatment are very small in size. My experience and approach to patient care makes all procedures I do comfortable and safe.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal fillers can last anywhere between three to 18 months. This will depend on the type of filler injected, the amount of filler used, the area of the face being treated and how active it is. It is also affected by how quickly your body naturally breaks down the filler, which will vary from person to person. During our consultation, we can discuss this in detail, taking into consideration your specific needs.
Do dermal fillers have any side effects?
Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and most people can return to their normal life immediately after treatment. However, all treatments pose some risk; the common side effects are redness, swelling and bruising. Allergic reactions are very rare but can occur. If you suffer from cold sores, it’s advisable to do preventive medication before treatment.
